Olyfkrans College participates in Street Soccer tournament

On Saturday the 28th July 2018, 12 enthusiastic Olyfkrans College soccer players participated in a very exciting and grueling Street Soccer tournament. There were 9 teams in total during the day competing for the prize money.

The tournament was held on the school grounds of local school, Bontebok Primary and hosted by
The Railton Foundation.

What made this tournament so incredibly special, was the fact that we were also privileged to be introduced to players whom have previously participated in International Street Soccer tournaments in Oslo, Norway.  This year two lads from Railton, Swellendam were selected to represent South Africa in the International Tournament in Mexico.  This also shows that opportunities are available for those that work hard and practice practice!

Our guys had two teams for the day, Olyf City and Olyfkrans Black Panthers.  We made it into the semi-finals but unfortunately were out-played by another team.  Special mention was made during the selection of Man of the Match, Chiquita Piliso, goalkeeper, was one of the names of the day.
It was a fantastic day, new connections and friends were made.

Thank you to Railton Foundation for always including us and giving our guys the chance to compete and also work together in our communities.

If any parents or good Samaritans would like to donate to our ongoing soccer support programme, please send us an email for details.  We always have a goal in mind. There are also referee courses available to school going players and this is something we would like some of our boys to consider.

Jovan van Leeuwen's Zambian Adventure

Who is Jovan?

Jovan van Leeuwen matriculated very successfully from Olyfkrans College in 2017.

Jovan was a member of the Voortrekkers, similar to scouts until he finished his schooling.  Jovan spent many weekends and school holidays working on the Breede River, helping conservation groups patrolling and monitoring activity on this mighty river, home of our own group of Zambezi sharks.  We have known Jovan since he was a young boy and we have had the privilege to watch him grow into a very caring and responsible young man.

In the last few weeks Jovan departed South Africa for the wilderness of Zambia. He was invited by the management of Camp Nkwazi to be assistant tour guide and he also assists with the day-to-day maintenance at the Camp. The time that he spends there will be up to 6 weeks during their high season.

We are very proud of Jovan and hope he will continue on his journey of conservation.

Dominic Brown Conquers Mt Kilimanjaro

Congratulations to our Headboy Dominic Brown for his successful attempt at climbing Mt Kilimanjaro.

During the June - July school holidays Dominic was not just drinking hot chocolate.  He was at the verge of a great adventure.  He also walked and hiked many of our Langeberg bush paths in preparation.

We are so incredibly proud of this feat of endurance and determination.  We are certain that this magnificent experience will be an adventure you will never forget.

Part 2 - Saturday 21st July 2018

At 06:00 am a bunch of our lads were up bright and early for the Chas Everitt Round the Pot 100 miler cycling race. These guys did a fantastic job and made us very proud. Some even called in for reinforcements and were provided with special security.

Thank you very much guys, you always make us so proud.
