On Saturday morning, 17 Olyfkrans learners were getting ready for a day of excitement, pain, sweat and even tears. Tears of joy!
At 08:00 am on Saturday we set off towards the Bontebok National Park along the N2. Breakfast was eaten on the truck as we had no time to waste. Once we arrived the teams started getting their minds in the game. Other teams started arriving and we could suss out our opponents, some we knew and others were not yet known. We watched them in silence as they warmed-up and went about the process of getting ready for war.
We had 2 teams registered for the Bontebok National Park Soccer Tournament. This event was organised in co-operation with the Department of Sport and Culture, Greater Swellendam Tourism Office Dreamfields.
In total there were 21 Teams registered for the day's events. And we had to play most of them to get the trophy.
All in all the day was filled with fantastic goals, draws, awesome footwork, camaraderie, exceptional defense and brotherhood. I want to thank my two captains for the day, Avu Ndabambi and Alex Kagerer for their magnificent captaincy. The example set by these young men were an example to most.
Alex Kagerer is a Grade 12 Learner at Olyfkrans College and was also in charge of coaching the soccer this year. Thank you Alex for your sportsmanship on and off the field. We are incredibly proud of you and wish you the best for your future.
