Masbieker's Valley Project
The Masbieker's Valley Project
A few of our grade 11 lads assisted Mr Andrew Hofmeyr with this fantastic project.
MVP or the Masbieker's Valley Project is a community initiative in the heart of Swellendam started in January of 2017. Beginning at the old VF Park on Buitekant Street, the area of about 6hectars is choked and over-grown with black wattle and blue gum trees as well as a repository for dumping by the community. MVP has removed over 100 bags of rubbish, cleared pathways and begun to re-forest the area with indigenous trees and vegetation (over 300 trees planted to date). There are plans to turn it into an environmental sculpture park and an arboretum. Ultimately the valley will be a community space for education, dog walking, tourism, arbour-enthusiasts and other lovers of the outdoors.
The project is not for profit and runs on donations of money, labour and time.
